MEDALLOY Doctoral Candidates Complete Induction Programme with Online Session

The second part of the MEDALLOY Induction programme took place online on 1 October, bringing together all nine Doctoral Candidates (DCs) for a full session on the foundations of research life within the project.

The session was facilitated by MEDALLOY Coordinator Dr Will Ronan and EU Project Support Officer Danielle Nicholson, both based at the University of Galway.

The programme opened with Research Integrity and Open Science, setting out the standards and practices that underpin responsible, transparent research. It then turned to the EU Green Charter, followed by a session on Dissemination and Communication, outlining how DCs can share their work with academic, industry and public audiences.

Dr Ronan and Ms Nicholson then gave an overview of MEDALLOY’s work packages, deliverables and milestones, helping DCs see how their individual projects fit into the wider consortium. They also explained where to go for help and support throughout the project.

The session also highlighted the value of Gender Diversity in Research and Career Development Plans and closed with the formation of the Committee, all central to supporting DCs’ professional growth over the course of their training.

A Q&A followed, giving DCs the chance to raise questions with the facilitators. Feedback on the session was then gathered from participants to help shape future training activities.

Induction Part 2 builds on the first part and prepares the DC cohort for the next stages of the MEDALLOY programme.
